Ten Thumbs teaches people how to touch type using a series of on-screen tutorials, lessons and feedback. The course is structured to the users needs with the option of QWERTY and Dvorak keyboard layouts, US and UK keyboards supported, optional number and symbol keys taught and a progress and feedback structure which keeps in pace with the users ability. The application is presented in a friendly and appealing way with plenty of tips and trivia and two animated games – the student learns to type because it’s fun. I use Revolution to develop and maintain Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor.
The Ten Thumbs Product Manager commented "Revolution allows me to solve problems easily with its highly visual and intuitive object oriented method of programming."
One of the main market advantages of Ten Thumbs is its ability to run on all of the major operating systems. "I develop Ten Thumbs on a Windows ME system mainly but with Revolution the application is built not only for the Windows platform but for Mac OS X, Mac Classic and Linux as well, at the check of a box. I don't need to develop separate versions for each platform or worry about cross-platform compatibilities."
The recent release of version of Ten Thumbs 3.0 includes a complete redesign of the interface from the previous version with new illustrations, backgrounds and layouts. Revolution allows images to be imported easily as controls (objects) in the application. "I found the process of integrating the new graphics very straightforward and enjoyable, it’s easy to move, re-size, layer and manipulate the images to create the look you want. This is how programming should be! "
"Revolution for me is a language that allows rapid development and implementation of my ideas. It provides me with the support I need to overcome problems quickly and allows the deployment of the finished application cross-platform at the check of a box. Simple."
